The Role of Trustees

The primary function of the Board of Trustees is to work cooperatively with Session, the Pastors and Staff to support the Ministry of Jesus Christ at the National Presbyterian Church.

The Trustees have custody and management of the property of the church, manage the corporate, legal affairs of the church and have responsibility for revenue and overall church finances.

NPC is organized as a 501(c)3 Maryland non-profit corporation. The Trustees have fiduciary responsibility for and are directors of the Maryland Corporation which manages the permanent Endowment Funds which support the church in two ways: 1) direct payment into the operating budget of the Church for support of programs for which the Corporation holds funds, such as Mission support, Children's Ministry, the Organ Fund; and 2) payment of capital replacement and repair costs under a Revolving Fund created after the Church received a major gift.

In accordance with prudent management standards, the Trustees set a spending rate for Endowment Funds which is designed to preserve their value over time in consideration of expected total return on investment, inflation, and investment management expenses. The Corporation pays for capital replacement expenses, such as repair of physical assets and building infrastructure. The amount paid out for capital needs varies from year to year.

In fulfilling these and other responsibilities, individual Trustees serve on one or more of the following Trustee Committees and/or one of the Committees of the Session:
