Providing a Home Church

The National Presbyterian Church ("NPC") takes pride in offering this ministry authorized by the PC(USA). We value the sacrifices military personnel and their families make, and we are pleased to be able to give back to the military community by providing spiritual support.

Military Membership provides a "home church" for active-duty members of the uniformed services and their families, regardless of where they are stationed. Military membership is open to any active-duty member of the uniformed services who professes faith in Jesus Christ, wants to be Presbyterian, and wants to maintain a church membership. NPC can be the church of record when a person is baptized or confirmed by a military chaplain, as military chapels do not keep records.

How Does One Become a Military Member?
An application for membership must be submitted to NPC by a chaplain of one of the uniformed services. This form indicates the kind of religious training or classes the applicant has completed and contains the recommendation of the chaplain. The application is reviewed and submitted to the Session, the board of elders that oversees church membership. When the Session approves the application, the applicant is added to the military membership roll.

How Will NPC Support Military Members?
NPC will periodically keep in touch with military members, via mail and e-mail. In addition, we provide sermons and other writings for spiritual guidance on this web site. You can also find descriptions of our congregational life and ministries.

If the military member requests prayer for God's assistance or wants us to offer thanks for God's blessings, we will be happy to include the request in our prayer ministries.

What Are The Military Members Responsibilities?
Please keep in touch. NPC will lose contact unless the member keeps us informed of current address. Please keep this up-to-date, by phone, mail or e-mail.

In the Christian practice of supporting charities and missions, we ask the military member to include NPC among the organizations the member supports.

We believe that Christ calls us to a personal relationship with God. We also believe we are called into relationships with other Christians - for worship, mutual spiritual support, and creating Christ's rule of love in the world. This relating with other Christians is nurtured in the church and is lived out in the place where we are. Therefore, upon returning to civilian life, we expect that a military member will become active in a local congregation and request a transfer of membership from NPC. If you are living in the DC area, we invite you to become active in this congregation.
