All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness. --
Periodically the road of life comes to a fork. Then you have to make a choice between two options that lead in very different directions. Since we are a people who very much want to get to the right place, we spend a lot of time at the forks pondering our options. The problem is we don't really know where the right place is, and so we are very confused about which fork in the road will take us there. Not only are we confused, we are also terrified of making a mistake.
When King David wrote this Psalm, he looked back on his life and noticed he had taken a lot of meandering paths. More than once it certainly seemed like he was on the wrong road. But he also remembered that he had encountered the faithful love of God on every road he had ever journeyed. And any place where the love of God is discovered is always the right place to be.
God owns all the roads. So it doesn't matter which fork you take, you'll never be able to walk away from the steadfast love of the Savior. In the words of Oswald Chambers, "It is this intense reality of expecting Christ at every turn that gives life the attitude of childlike wonder that he wants us to have."
Have you noticed that small children enjoy their choices a lot more than adults? That's because they are not burdened with the illusion that their choices are more important than they are.
