Here are the "Frequently Answered Questions"...

Can I make a donation to NPC via this web stie?
Yes, thank you! Please visit the donation page. We use PayPal® to process online donations. You can donate even if you do not have a PayPal account; PayPal can also process credit card payments and donations.

Where are the online archives?
Please see the historical links at the top of the Sermons page. If you are looking for a sermon on a particular biblical passage, you might find our Sermon Catalog helpful. Many of Dr. Barnes Devotionals are also available.

Where is Craig Barnes?
He resigned as Senior Pastor of NPC in the summer of 2002. Dr. Barnes first accepted a teaching position at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and later became pastor of Shadyside Presbyterian Church.

Where is Tom Erickson?
Tom concluded his two year term as Interim Pastor of NPC in the summer of 2004. Dr. Erickson is Interim Senior Pastor at First & Calvary Presbyterian Church on the campus of Missouri State University.

Where is Harry Winsheimer?
He has retired..

Where are Jean Coyle, Peggy Miller, and Ed Satterfield?
Jean, Peggy and Ed left NPC as part of a staff restructuring in the summer of 2007. They served us with energy, grace and wisdom, and will be missed.

Where can I get the rest of Dr. Barnes' sermons?
Dr. Barnes preached at NPC from 1993 until 2002. We began regular posting of sermons on the web site in 2000, so the vast majority of his 401 sermons are not available on the web. We do not have transcripts of all the sermons, but you can order audio cassette tapes from the Church Bookstore.

How do I get Adobe PDF® files?
You need the FREE Adobe Reader® plug-in from the Adobe web site http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.

Can I listen online or download audio of a Sunday sermon?
Yes, you can listen "on-demand" to audio recordings of sermons. We recommend Apple Quicktime for the audio player. The free version works just fine. You can subscribe to podcasts via iTunes® or similar RSS-aware software. You'll find the audio links on the Sermons page. You can also order cassette tapes from the Church Bookstore.

When will the Sunday sermon be available on-line?
A Sunday Sermon is usually available by the following Wednesday. You can find the most current postings by clicking the left sidebar link to Worship Services.

Can I listen to the sermons online?
You can listen to the sermons in MP3 audio format, either online or on a variety of free audio players. You can also download the sermons in MP3 format (perfect for an iPod). And you can subscribe to our podcasts using iTunes® or an RSS reader.

Can I get automatic e-mail updates from the Church?
Yes. Click here to join the 2,022 members of the NPC e-mail list

I need to change my e-mail address for updates from the Church.
Easy. Click here to sign up with your new e-mail address. You might want to remove your old address, too.

What is "HTML" email?
"HTML" is the language of web sites. HTML can be formatted with pictures and clickable links. Unfortunately, HTML is not very secure and sometimes troublesome for PDAs. NPC only sends plain text email.

I don't want to receive any email from the Church.
OK. Click here and follow the instructions to remove your email address from our e-mail list.

I have moved and need to change my postal address.
Please send an email to with your name and new address. We will take care of it.

I have moved away and no longer want any mail from NPC.
Sorry to see you go. Please send an email to and tell us your name in the body of the message. We will remove you from our postal mail list.

Calendar times seem to be five hours off. Why?
The vCal standard (from the Internet Mail Consortium) requires all calendar dates and times to be stored in Greenwich Mean Time. Your computer's time zone should be set to reflect the time zone where YOU are located, and that is probably not Greenwich. NPC is located in US & Canada Eastern Time. In your calendar program, you can probably adjust your time zone so that the calendar times make more sense.

I searched the web site, but could not find what I wanted.
That happens sometimes. Here is a suggestion that may help: You can limit your searches to fairly precise phrasing by putting + (a plus sign) between the words. If you search for "East+of+Eden" the search engine will look for that entire phrase. But if you search for "East of Eden", the search engine will look for any occurence of "East", "of", or "Eden" -- this will return a lot of useless results! Most search engines work that way. Don't ask us why.

We also omit common English words from the index of the search engine. You can see the list of omitted words here.

If you tried a search and didn't find what you were looking for, please call the church at 202.537.0800 or send an email message to and a live person will help you get the information you need.

I don't want to search the whole site. Can I search one page?
Yes. On a PC, use [Ctrl] + F to open a search box for a single page.
On a Mac, use [apple] + F to open the search box.

The email links look funny.
Right. We do that on purpose. You can't prevent spammers from harvesting email addresses from web sites, but you can obscure the email addresses a little bit. The links still pop up email windows. Hopefully, this little safeguard represents an appropriate compromise between convenience and secrecy.

What's with the sermon audio?
If you're on a reasonably high speed internet connection, you should be able to hear the sermons at the same time you are reading the text. If you have any trouble with this feature, please notify the web servants. Many thanks.
